Are Ricoh Duplicators Comparable to Riso?

The Standard dealer (rebadged Ricoh) confirmed that the Seri Printer with UV dryer is no longer in production. Limited ink choices and high costs were cited as factors, alongside advancements in ink technology that eliminate the need for UV drying.

Regarding reliability concerns with certain duplicators, inconsistent performance can be a significant issue. A machine might run flawlessly one day and require adjustments the next to achieve the desired output. Achieving optimal toner adhesion often involves considerable trial and error. A common problem is cyan toner hazing across the sheet.

Another challenge arises with coated stock. Unlike results achieved on a Xerox, where blank areas remain pristine, the Xante often struggles to maintain clean white spaces. This is especially noticeable on lighter weight coated stocks, resulting in light printing and milky patches. While coated cover stock fares better, text weight often presents challenges.

Ultimately, while capable of handling envelopes and stock exceeding 300gsm, such duplicators might be best suited as secondary machines. Pushing the engine to its limits with heavy stocks, as advertised, could contribute to performance issues. Modifications required to accommodate these capabilities might also play a role.
